Ichigo is the main character of the series and the leader of the Mew Mews. She's in love with Masaya Aoyama, the most popular boy in school. While on her first date with him, she gets injected with the DNA of the Iriomote Wildcat. The next day she realizes that she's more tired than usual, she's able to land on her feet after falling from high places and has a sudden craving for fish. After Aoyama gets attacked by a rat Chimera Anima, Ichigo gets saved by Ryou Shirogane, the head of the Mew Project. After she transforms and defeats the monster, she is taken to Cafe Mew Mew where she finds out about her mission. At first she's uncertain about her new life but as the other Mew Mews come together, she gets more determined to defend the Earth. Ichigo is the only Mew Mew who can fully change into her animal, a cat, when she gets too excited or kissed. Ichigo also has the ability to talk to cats and is the only Mew Mew to have a weapon upgrade. She's also the only Mew Mew to use the Mew Aqua Rod in the anime(in the manga the other Mew Mews use it and Ichigo doesn't).

Mint is the 2nd Mew Mew to join the team. Born in a rich household, she might come off as kind of snobbish even calling Ichigo "vulgar" when they first meet and hardly does any work at the cafe. Mint's parents are never home and her brother, Seiji(Sergio in Mew Mew Power), is preparing to go to school abroad so she has an old housekeeper she calls Baya(dubbed as her grandmother in Mew Mew Power) who is like a third parent to her. Her favorite passtime is drinking her afternoon tea since she claims that it was a ritual she had since she was younger. But Mint has her own merits and is actually very caring to her teammates in her own way. She is especially fond of Zakuro and looked up to her even before she found out that she was a fellow Mew Mew. As the series progresses, Mint shows a huge change in character even stating that a girl she knows, Kanna Saionji(who she becomes "friendly rivals" with later on), reminds her of how she was back then and she hates it. Mint, like Ichigo, has the ability to talk to the animal that she's merged with, which are birds. Mint is also the only Mew Mew that can fly without the Mew Aqua's influence.

-Retasu(Lettuce) Midorikawa-

Lettuce is the 3rd Mew Mew to join the team. Ichigo spotted her getting picked on by 3 other girls. When asked why she hangs out with them Lettuce says that she hopes to be friends with them after she shows how nice she can be by listening to their troubles(in Mew Mew Power it was because they were popular). After hearing a ghost story involving Lettuce's school, Mint(while having Ichigo tied to a leash) decides to investigate to see if it's a Chimera Anima. It turns out that the ghost is Lettuce slowly gaining her Mew form. Lettuce suddenly attacks the girls out of fear of what she's become, thinking that she'll never have friends now that she isn't normal. Ichigo talks to her saying that she isn't alone and that she has friends right in front of her. Lettuce is a shy girl by nature and a bookworm(even considered a smart girl with a high IQ in Mew Mew Power). She slowly gains confidence in herself as the series progresses. She also has the ability to turn into a mermaid when she comes into contact with a Mew Aqua.

-Purin(Pudding) Fon-

Pudding is the 4th and youngest member of the Mew Mew team. Her mother died when she was younger and her father is in China training. So Pudding takes care of her 5 siblings while making a living doing street performing. Pudding first appears at the park asking Ichigo for a tip after performing and starts following her when she couldn't pay. Pudding then sees Ichigo's cat ears and tail and says that she wants them too. Ichigo soon gets annoyed and leaves. Kisshu appears the next day wanting to take Pudding's spirit but is stopped by Ichigo. Pudding then wants to help out and soon finds out that she's has ears as well(but are monkey ears XD). Pudding is really hyper and loves to show off her gymnastics skills and tricks to people and cafe customers. Most of these tricks involve balancing on huge beach balls and spinning plates. It is later revealed that plate spinning is part of her training in her family's style of fighting called Kouenji Kenpou. Her gymnastic abilities and her fighting style makes her really agile in battle.

-Zakuro Fujiwara-

Zakuro is the final member of the Mew Mew team. She is also the oldest and most mature. She's also really famous since she has both a modeling and acting career. She actually got her powers before the other Mew Mews found her but fought Chimera Animas in secret during the night. She was first found by Lettuce when she found an article about a mysterious supergirl fighting monsters and was afraid that someone took a picture of one of them. But after Pudding searches through existing photos, they find out that it's Zakuro which gets Mint excited since she's a huge fan. Kisshu, tired of Zakuro ruining his plans, attempts to kill her at church(dubbed the "dark scary building" in Mew Mew Power XD). But Zakuro defeats him easily. She refuses to join the team at first saying that she prefers to be alone but once she finds out that Ichigo is genuine about how much she cares for everyone and that they are stronger as a team, she changes her mind. Zakuro is the strongest member of the team(if you don't count Ichigo that is XD). Her ZaCross Whip has the ability to defeat a bunch of Chimera Animas at once.

-Masaya Aoyama-

Aoyama is the most popular boy in school and the star of his Kendo team. From a typical person's point of view, he seems like the perfect kid but he's far from it. Aoyama was adopted when he was little and doesn't know where he came from and decided to play the role of the "good boy" to survive. In reality he hates humans and their destruction of the environment. Ichigo was the only person he's met that ever made him truely smile and he confesses his love for her after her battle at Tokyo Tower.
Spoilers:
Aoyama is the Blue Knight, who protects Ichigo when she is in danger. Aoyama is also actually a creation by Deep Blue. Deep Blue wanted a body to take over after he fully awakened and made Aoyama to hide his true identity from others. He is also the final "true" Mew Aqua that the aliens created before leaving Earth. Aoyama soon goes against his creator and, with Ichigo's help, defeats him(in the manga version, he stabs himself and releases the last of the Mew Aqua).

-Ryou Shirogane-

Italian Name: Ryan Shirogane
Chinese Name: Leng BaiJin(Mandarin), Ling BaakGam(Cantonese)
Korean Name: Jae-hee Gang
Age: 15 (16 in Mew Mew Power)
Hair/Eye Color: Blonde/Light Blue
Ryou Shirogane is the head of the Mew Project and the one who turned the girls into Mew Mews. Ryou comes off as unsocial, bossy, and kind of a jerk(especially in Ichigo's point of view) but he's really caring about the girls deep down and even says that he'll protect them the best he can since he's responsible for putting them in the situation that they're in.
Spoilers:
Ryou's father was actually the one who started the Mew Project but was killed when a resurrected Chimera Anima set fire to their house killing both Ryou's father and mother. Ryou, with Keiichiro, returned to Japan to finish the project. About 5 years later, they finished and, in order to make sure it was safe, Ryou injects himself with cat DNA. Because of this, he can change into a cat at will but can't stay a cat for over 10 minutes or he won't be able to turn back into a human.

-Keiichiro Akasaka-

Keiichiro is Ryou's guardian, best friend, and partner in the Mew Project. He met Ryou when he became Prof. Shirogane's assistant in the United States but moved back to Japan with Ryou after his death. He is a true gentleman in everything he does. He is strictly damage control when to comes to Ichigo and Ryou's arguments(usually by sweet-talking Ichigo into calming down). He is also the chef for Cafe Mew Mew and makes the most delicious desserts. Yummy!!~~ Keiichiro also had an ex-girlfriend, Rei Nishina, who broke up with him(BOO!!) because they were always busy with their research to spend time with each other(Lame excuse! He's worth waiting for!!! XDD). After he saves her from the aliens, she officially calls off their relationship and says good-bye to him(ungrateful little..... hehe ^^;).

ALIENS:

The aliens(called the Cyniclons in Mew Mew Power) are on a mission to reclaim the Earth. It is revealed that Earth used to be their home but due to changes in the environment, they had to leave. But the planet they went to was in far worse condition than Earth but leaving took most of their resources so they couldn't go back. They waited 300 million years until they were able to go back to Earth again but what they found were humans polluting the planet. Now they're trying to get it back before humans destroy it(in Mew Mew Power, this reason is taken out making it seem like a typical alien invasion).

-Kisshu (Quiche)-

English Name: Dren (Nerd backwards)
Italian Name: Ghish Ikisatashi
Chinese Name: Xin-Shuu(Mandarin), Hei-Si(Cantonese)
Korean Name: Kissyu (still pronouced Kisshu)
Kisshu is the first alien to appear in the series. His job is to destroy the humans and reclaim the Earth for his people. Right when he shows himself to Ichigo, he kisses her. He is described as a perv with passion but he really does care for Ichigo and it shows, especially in the 2nd half of the series. He is often jealous of Aoyama's relationship with Ichigo and attempts to kill him more than once. Even though it seems that Ichigo is the only thing on his mind most of the time, he also cares about what happens to his race on his home planet. Kisshu also starts having his doubts about Deep Blue's motives and soon goes against him to try to save Ichigo but is killed in the process. He is later revived by the last Mew Aqua. His weapon consists of 2 sai daggers(he uses tonfas in the manga) that he can stab with or shoot lighting out of. Kisshu specializes in creating Animal and Human Chimera Animas.

-Pai (Pie)-

English Name: Sardon (Short for Sardonic meaning "bitter", "scornful" or "cynical")
Itailan Name: Pie Ikisatashi
Chinese Name: A-Pai(Mandarin), Paai(Cantonese)
Korean Name: Pai
Pai is the oldest and smartest of the aliens. He is really serious about is mission and is willing to follow Deep Blue to the end. He seems to be closest to Taruto since he partners up with him most of the time when on missions. The anime kind of hints at him having an affection for Lettuce and he even dies trying to save her(even giving her one of his rare smiles before he does) and the other Mew Mews near the end of the series. He is later revived by the Mew Aqua. Pai uses a red and yellow fan(some people say it's tacky looking XD) to shoot out electric attacks(in the manga he just uses his hands). He sometimes uses two and can even make the fans bigger in size. He also specializes in created Hybrid Chimera Animas.

-Taruto (Tart)-

English Name: Tarb (Brat backwards)
Italian Name: Tart Ikisatashi
Chinese Name: Dan-Ta(Mandarin), Taruto(Cantonese)
Korean Name: Tart
Taruto is the youngest of the aliens so it's not surprising that he can be kind of bratty sometimes. He enjoys causing trouble for the people he attacks and calls Ichigo an Old Hag(in which she calls him a Runt). Taruto soon develops feelings for Pudding, even though he doesn't admit it at first, and starts wondering if what he and his friends are doing is the right thing. He soon jumps at the chance to go along with Kisshu's plan to steal the Blue Knight's power to save the planet they currently live on but the plan fails and Deep Blue awakens. Taruto is soon killed by Pai after he goes against him but is later revived by the Mew Aqua. Taruto's weapon, which resembles clacker toys, can shoot out electricity like the others and he specializes in Plant Chimera Animas and can even control plants at will.
